Puberty is a stage of development of a child becoming sexually mature. In women, puberty occurs in the age range of 10-14 years and in men, puberty occurs in the age range of 12-16 years.
In puberty, both teenage girls and boys will feel a change in their bodies. This body change occurs due to hormonal changes (one of which is growth hormone) during puberty. In addition to teenagers, parents should also understand the signs of puberty.
Signs of Puberty in Women
In women, puberty causes various changes in the body, such as:Breasts begin to grow
When entering puberty, the breasts of adolescent girls will begin to grow. Generally occurs at the age of 8-13 years, and begins from the area around the nipple. It is possible that one breast grows earlier than the other breast, so that its size can be different between left and right. This condition is still considered normal. Noteworthy is if the difference is very striking or there is a lump in the breast.
To find out the condition of normal breasts, you can routinely do breast self-examination (BSE). The trick, look and feel for breasts, is there anything unnatural. This step aims to detect serious conditions in the breast early on, such as cysts or breast cancer.
The growth of hair in the genitals and armpits
The growth of pubic hair and armpit hair is normal and does not need to worry or feel embarrassed. The most important thing is to always maintain a clean body, especially in the area of vital organs.
Menstruation
Women have eggs that will become a fetus if they are fertilized or meet the sperm of a man. Every month, the uterus makes a layer of blood and tissue as a place to attach an egg to be fertilized. However, if the egg is not fertilized, it will eventually break down and come out of the vagina in the form of menstrual blood. Menstrual periods generally last around 2-7 days. Change pads regularly every 4-8 hours to keep the vital organs clean.
Recognizing Puberty in Men
In adolescent boys, puberty also brings changes to the body, such as:Enlarged testicles and penis size
There are no fixed standards regarding when this change will occur in adolescent boys. Increased penis size can occur from the age of 9 years or older, although some teenagers aged 15 years who still have not experienced it. But, do not worry because these conditions are usually still considered normal.
Everyone experiences different physical developments, both the age of change and size. Therefore, do not worry about penis size and compare with other people's penis size. If there is a slight difference in size between one testicle and another, there is also no need to worry, because that is the thing
You are advised to check the condition of the penis and testicles regularly after bathing to find out their normal shape. Also to find out whether there are lumps or not on the testes. If there are lumps when touched, there are changes in the color of the testicles or feel pain, do not be ashamed to check with a doctor.
Having a wet dream
During puberty, teenage boys will also experience wet dreams, which are ejaculations that occur while sleeping. Wet dreams that you experience occur because of an increase in testosterone levels in the body. As we get older, the intensity of wet dreams will decrease.
Growing hair in the pubic and underarm areas
As also for teenage girls, teenage boys will experience the growth of fine hairs around the genitals and armpits.
The sound becomes heavier
Enlargement of the larynx size, which is the organ where the vocal cords are located, will make the sound of teenage boys sound heavier. This condition is often known as a burst of male voice. This is normal, because the body is adapting to the size of the larynx
This crackling sound will occur for several months, at the age range of 11-15 years. After that, the sound will continue to develop until it is perfect and usually settles in the early 20s.
